Shoe Essentials #1 Boots

I haven't really talked much about fashion on my blog but, today seems like the today to talk about SHOES. I am going off to college in late September and it is time to make some practical purchases. My college is in Washington state so that means a lot of rain. My shoes need to be durable because they are going to take a beating. I find that when it comes to shoes I like simple and a more edgy look. I am a huge fan of motorcycle boots. At 5 foot I like all of my shoes to give me a little height but I don't want to sacrifice comfort. Living in NYC I walk everywhere and I need to be able to go the whole day without my feet killing me.

In the winter I basically don't wear anything but boots. I kind of have a love affair with my Frye Engineer and Veronica Slouch boots. I have one in a brown (red based) and the classic black. These boots are my life because I can wear them forever and my feet never hurt. The breaking on process does take few weeks, but once you do it is like walking on air. The leather is super durable and with a little water-proof spray they are perfect for the rain and light snow. While in Venice a two years ago I wore my Fryes in ankle deep high tide and they kept me dry.

They have a nice chunky heel that keeps you elevated off the ground but doesn't feel like your wearing "high heels". If you live a cold place or if you have a cold fall/winter I would suggest getting a pair of black and brown boots that you can wear in almost any weather situation. You don't have to get motorcycle boots, what ever style that suits your wardrobe best. I know not everyone likes a slip-on boot and prefer a lace up combat boot.

I recently just purchase a pair of Dr.Martens because I wanted a pair of boots that were in a different style. Because I already have the basic brown and black I bought a 1460 W in purple smooth. They are matte muted plum color with eight eyelets. Dr.Martens make great quality shoes that if you take care of them they will last forever.

Boots are a really great styling tool because they can dress anything down and give your outfit an edge. Good quality boots are pretty expensive but, I see it as an investment. Great boots will last years and you can re-wear they for with every coming season. Classic black and brown boots really never go our of style.
